Two down and out Shakespearean actors, Jack and Leo, are reduced to performing “Scenes from Shakespeare” on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania. When they learn that a local old lady is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. The trouble starts when they get to the town; they find out that the relatives aren’t nephews, but nieces! Romantic entanglements abound, especially when Leo falls head-over-petticoat in love with the old lady’s vivacious niece, Meg, who’s engaged to the local minister. Meg knows there is a wide world out there, but it is not until she meets “Maxine and Stephanie” that she finally gets a taste of it.

Winters newest wine tasting addition is the new Main Street Cellars, by Michael Peterson, at 9 East Main Street. Peterson, owner andwine buyer, is a 25-year veteran of the wine industry. He now welcomes the opportunity to share his extensive knowledge of and passion for wine with others.

Northern California grapes are part of Michael’s heritage. His family settled in Napa in the 1850s and planted orchards, including grapes. Although he has traveled extensively and broadened his palate, northern California is home to Michael and he has chosen to return to this area and open Main Street Cellars in charming Winters.

Entertaining and informed, Michael pours each taste of wine with enthusiasm, care, and expertise. He is eager to share his knowledge and passion for wine and welcomes all questions regardless of a person’s familiarity (or not) with wine. He has a special talent for matching the right person and the right wine and looks forward to sharing his love of wine with others at Main Street Cellars

Main Street and Railroad Avenue, Winters

When discovering the hidden gem of Winters, dispense with your notions about small towns. Established in 1875 and incorporated in 1898, it is historic and endearing, a town where gracious residents make newcomers feel welcome. Its 19th century buildings on Main Street and Railroad Avenue feel like Mayberry R.F.D., but there’s a sophisticated edge, thanks to an artisan community, galleries, shops, wine-tasting rooms, wonderful restaurants and live music venues.

1. The Clayground

7 E. Main St., Studio 7B: Ceramicist Shannon Moore (pictured above), who studied painting and art history, and potter Rebecca Bresnick Holmes, who introduces her students to clay by teaching hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques, partnered to create a ceramic studio where children, individuals and groups explore clay. http://www.clayground.biz/.

2. Rotary Park

East Main Street and Railroad Avenue: Pack a lunch and sit at a picnic table under a shade tree at Rotary Park. Robert Chapman Memorial Bridge and the Putah Creek Walk and Nature Trail.

3. J. Robert Chapman Memorial Bridge

Railroad Avenue: After refurbishing this steel railroad bridge – constructed in 1906 by the Southern Pacific Railroad – and transforming it into a pedestrian and bicycle path, the city of Winters renamed it to honor J. Robert Chapman, a former mayor and council member.
